Race Recap: Shoemaker Mile

Anthony Fanticola and Joseph Scardino's Obviously (IRE) (Choisir (AUS)) stamped his ticket back to the Breeders' Cup Mile with a win in the Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita going gate to wire despite getting pressure early. Summer Front (War Front) finished, and Tom's Tribute (Lion Heart) and Silento (Silent Name (JPN)) dead-heated for third. The winner is trained by Phil D'Amato and ridden by Joe Talamo. This was D'Amato's first Grade 1 under his name, but he was the assistant for Mike Mitchell who had trained Obviously before his retirement.

Bred by Deidre Cogan, Obviously is out of the mare Leala (IRE) (Montjeu (IRE)). He has 20 starts (all, but three in North America) with 11 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds and earnings of $1,337,361.
