Shogun (Fastnet Rock (AUS)): 3rd in the Futurity (Curragh) and then 6th in the Lagardere. US debut and faced Cymric in the Lagardere.

Highland Sky (Sky Mesa): Won first time out and 4th in the Pilgrim. Trainer has had some solid BC contenders in the past.

Birchwood (Dark Angel (IRE)): 3rd in the National Stakes and 5th in the Vintage Stakes. US debut and won the Superlative Stakes.

Ray's the Bar (Exceed and Excel (AUS)): Broke maiden at Ascot and then 3rd in the Pilgrim in his US debut. Has the #1 turf trainer in the US.

Airoforce (Colonel John): Broke maiden and won the Bourbon. The latter was over the Keeneland turf course.

Sky Marshal (Sky Mesa): Won Allowance and 2nd in the Summer Stakes. Canadian horses have always been tough in the Breeders' Cup.

Conquest Daddyo (Scat Daddy): 2nd in the Vandal and won the Summer. Think has a big chance to pull the upset.

Hollywood Don (Tapit): 3rd in the Front Runner and won the Del Mar Juvenile Turf. Returns to turf after doing okay on dirt.

Camelot Kitten (Kitten's Joy): Broke maiden and 2nd in the Bourbon. Same sire and owners as Stephanie's Kitten who won the female version in 2011.

Cymric (Kitten's Joy): 2nd in the Lagardere and won the equilvlent of an allowance. Same female family as BC race winners My Flag and Storm Flag Flying.

Hit It a Bomb (War Front): Broke maiden and won the Star Appeal Stakes. The latter was on synthetic.

Sheikh of Sheikhs (Discreetly Mine): Broke maiden and 6th in the Breeders Futurity. If he draws in will be turf debut.

Juvenile Turf Recap

Coolmore's Hootenanny (Quality Road) ran down his stablemate Luck of the Kitten (Kitten's Joy) to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Daddy D T (Scat Daddy) was third. The winner is trained by Wesley Ward and was ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Bourbon and Spinster Recap

Turf Stable's Lawn Ranger (US Ranger) sat just off the pace and held off Danny Boy (Harlan's Holiday) to win the Bourbon at Keeneland. Can't Happen Here (Desert Party) was third. The winner was ridden by Chris Landeros and trained by Kenny McPeek.

Out of the mare Lalka (Dynaformer), Lawn Ranger was bred by Scott and Carol Ricker. His record is 3 starts with 2 wins, 1 second and 0 thirds and earnings of $209,700.

Phil Sims and Jerry Namy's Don't Tell Sophia (Congaree) went from last to first to upset the Spinster. Ria Antonia (Rockport Harbor) was second and Molly Morgan (Ghostzapper) was third. The favorite Close Hatches (First Defense) could only manage 4th. Joe Rocco Jr. rode for her trainer/co-owner Phil Sims.

Bred by Stonerside Stable, Sophia is out of the mare Lost Expectations (Valid Expectations). Her record is 22 starts with 11 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds with earnings of $979,295.

France recap

Even though the Arc was the biggest race on the day at Longchamp (won for the second year in a row by Treve), there where 4 WAYI races. Here is the recap of those races:

Coolmore's Found (IRE) won the Total Prix Marcel Boussac-Criterium Des Pouliches. Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni (Fr)) was second and Jack Naylor (GB) (Champs Elysees (GB)) was third. The winner was ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Aiden O'Brien.

Bred by Roncon, Wynatt & Chelston, the winner is out of the mare Red Evie (IRE) (Intikhab). Her record is 3 starts with 2 wins, 1 second and earnings of about $266,310.81 US.

Found has now qualified for this year's Juvenile Fillies Turf.


The Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium) turned out to be a wild one with Gleneagles (IRE) (Galileo (IRE)) crossing the wire first, however he was DQ'ed to third for obstruction. The winner of the race would end up being Juddmonte's homebred Full Mast (Mizzen Mast). Territories (IRE) (Invisible Spirit (IRE)) would be elevated to second. Thierry Thulliez rode for Criquette Head-Maarek (the younger sister to Freddie Head who rode Miesque to two Mile wins and trained Goldikova to 3 Mile wins) trains.

Out of the mare Yashmak (Danzig), the winner has a record of 3 starts with 3 wins, 0 seconds and earnings of $315,988.71 US.

Full Mast now has a spot in this year's Juvenile Turf.


In what was a good day for horses with US connections (other then Full Mast's Jean-Luc Lagardere win, Moviesta a Hard Spun gelding who was born in the US finished third in the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp), the good times rolled this time in the Prix de l'Opera. George Strawbridge's homebred We Are (IRE) (Dansili (GB)) was the winner. Ribbons (GB) (Manduro (GER)) was second and Hadaatha (Ire) (Sea the Stars (IRE)) was third. Thierry Jarnet rode for Freddy Head (Jarnet would also win the Arc for Freddy's sister Criquette).

Out of the mare In Clover (GB) (Inchinor (GB)), the winner has a record of 5 starts with 2 wins, 0 seconds and earnings of about $301,684.18 US.

We Are has now earned a spot into this year's Filly and Mare Turf.


Al Shaqab Racing ended a great day with not only an Arc win, but also a win in the Prix de la Foret with Olympic Glory (IRE) (Choisir (Aus)). Gordon Lord Byron (IRE) (Byron) was second and Noozhoh Canarias (SPA) (Caradak (Ire)) was third. Frankie Dettori rode for trainer Richard Hannon.

Bred by Denis McDonnell, Olympic is out of the mare Acidanthera (GB) (Alzao). His record is 15 starts with 8 wins and 5 places with earnings of about $2,159,272.04 US.

Olympic Glory has earned a spot into this year's Mile.

We are getting down the homestretch for WAYI races! Keeneland's big weekend ends on Sunday with  two more WAYI races. This time the Bourbon (Juvenile Turf) and the Spinster (Distaff). Here are the fields:

Ria Antonia (Rockport Harbor): 4th in her last two races, Locust Grove and Monmouth Oaks. Sadly it looks like she is looking more of a fluke with every passing race.

Close Hatches (First Defense): Personal Ensign and Phipps winner. Is a different filly this year then she was last year as the runner up in the Distaff.

Got Lucky (A.P. Indy): 5th in the Alabama and won an allowance race. Had shown promise earlier this year.

Shuruq (Elusive Quality): Won the International Istanbul Trophy and was 8th in the Godolphin Mile. This will be her first dirt and US start.

Don't Tell Sophia (Congaree): Won the Locust Grove and 3rd in the Azeri. Is finally coming into her own at the age of 6.

Molly Morgan (Ghostzapper): 2nd in the Locust Grove and won the Gardenia. 2nd in lone start at Keeneland, but that was on turf.

Royal Lodge Recap

Qatar Racing's Elm Park (GB) (Phoenix Reach (IRE)) won the Royal Lodge over Nafaqa (Ire) (Sir Percy (GB)) and Salateen (GB) (Dutch Art (GB)) who where second and third respectively. Andrea Atzen rode for trainer Andrew Balding. Elm Park's record is 4 starts with 3 wins 0 second and 1 third and earnings of about $145,473.58 US. Natalma and Summer recap

Conquest Stable's Conquest Harlanate (Harlan's Holiday) continued recent trainer Mark Casse's domance of the Natalma with her win today at Woodbine. Isabella Sings (Eskendereya) was second and Skinner Box (Indian Charlie) was third. Patrick Husbands rode.

Bred by Windhaven Farm, Harlanate is out of the mare Allison's Pride (Dixieland Band). She has three starts with 2 wins, 0 seconds and 1 third with earnings of $173,569.

It would be a sweep for Conquest Stables as Conquest Typhoon (Stormy Atlantic) took down the Summer Stakes breaking his maiden in the process. Samuel Dechamplain (Henrythenavigator) was second and U S Marshal (Badge of Silver) was third. Like with Harlanate, Typhoon is trained by Mark Casse and was ridden by Patrick Husbands.

Bred by Josham Farms, he is out of the mare Swanky Bubbles (Ascot Knight). His record is 3 starts with 1 win, 2 seconds and 0 thirds with earnings of $170,054.

Juvenile Turf Trial Stakes

Named for one of the most important Presidents in the history of the United States, Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Flaxman Holding's John F Kennedy (IRE) (Galileo (IRE)) took down the Juvenile Turf Trial at Leopardstown in Ireland. Tombelaine (First Defense) was second and Faithful Creek (IRE) (Bushranger (IRE)) was third.

John was ridden by Joseph O'Brien is trained by Aiden O'Brien. He is out of the mare Rumplestiltskin (IRE) (Danehill) and is a full brother to Yorkshire Oaks winner Tapestry (IRE) (Galileo (IRE)) who has earned a spot in the F/M Turf. He was bred by Orpendale And The Niarchos Family. Record, earnings and video coming later.

 John F Kennedy has earned a spot into this year's Juvenile Turf.

Natalma and Summer Stakes preview

It's all about the turf this weekend with all of the WAYI's on that surface. The first preview of the weekend is for the Juvenile Fillies Turf and Juvenile Turf will be run on Saturday at Woodbine.
