Distaff Preview

Sorry guys due to a lack of time there will not be any video previews this year. However to make up for it here is an more closer look at this year's Distaff (will be doing the same thing for the Classic).

9th Race - Keeneland - Friday, October 30th, 2015
STAKES. 1 1/8 Mile Dirt. Purse $2,000,000. Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (Grade 1). FOR FILLIES AND MARES, THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD. Northern Hemisphere Three-Year-Olds, 121 lbs.; Older, 124 lbs.; Southern Hemisphere Three-Year-Olds, 116 lbs.; Older, 124 lbs. $20,000 to pre-enter, $20,000 to enter, with guaranteed $2 million purse including travel awards of which 55% to the owner of the winner, 18% to second, 10% to third, 6% to fourth and 3% to fifth; plus travel awards to starters not based in Kentucky. 15 Peace And War 3 F L 121 Van Dyke Drayden Motion H. Graham

I'm a Chatterbox (Munnings): 2nd in the Alabama and won the Cotillion. Possibly the most consistant 3yo this year with her wins at the Fair Grounds and 3rd in the KY Oaks. Despite being by Munnings, the nine furlongs won't be a problem for her.

Frivolous (Empire Maker): 4th in the Spinster, she won the Locust Grove. Possibly the #4 best Older Female around. Keeneland form has been a little suspect, but she does have a win at the track.

Salama (Desert Party): A G3 winner in Peru, she was second in her US debut in an Allowance/Optional Claimer. Her trainer has had top horses in the past, but this is a monster step up in class for her.

Stopcharginingmaria (Tale of the Cat): 4th in the Personal Ensign and won the Shuvee. Before last had been having a pretty good year and wouldn't be suprised if she where to win. Has had plenty of rest since her last race.

Calmity Kate (Yes It's True): 2nd in the Cotillon and won the Delaware Oaks. Could be a horse to watch for a longshot chance. However, was 9th last year in the Alcibiades on this surface.

My Sweet Addiction (Tiznow): 2nd and 4th in the Zenyatta and Hirsch respectively to Beholder. Won the Vanity earlier this season. Lone start outside of California, 9th in the Flur des Lis.

Wedding Toast (Street Sense): Won the Beldame and Phipps. 4th in the Madison at Keeneland earlier this year (but that was a sprint). Skipped the Summer races.

Curalina (Curlin): 2nd in the Beldame and 3rd in the Alabama. Was denied the Triple Tiara in the latter. Lone 3yo filly to face older so far in a stakes race.

Stellar Wind (Curlin): Won the Torrey Pines and Summertime Oaks. Also won the SA Oaks earlier this year. Stretches back out to a mile and a eighth.

Yahilwa (Medaliga d' Oro): 3rd in the Spinster and 4th in the Hirsch. With the amount of travel she's had this year, you could say she's the female American Pharoah. Of course the Triple Crown winner's race record is much better.

Untapable scratched

Got Lucky (A.P. Indy): Won the Spinster and was second in the Personal Ensign. 5th in the former last year as a 3yo. Has had only one bad start this year (5th in the Rampart).

Warren's Veneda (Affirmative): 7th in the Zenyatta and 3rd in the Hirsch. Had a 3 win race streak snapped by My Sweet Addiction in the Vanity. Hasn't been the same since.

Sheer Drama (Burning Roma): Won both the Personal Ensign and Delaware Handicap. 1/2 sister to Sprint winner Big Drama. Hasn't finished worse then 2nd this year.

Peace and War (War Front): 3rd in the Cotillion and 2nd in the DE Oaks. Had to wait for a scratch to get into the race. Won the Alcibiades in her US debut on this surface last year.

Win: Wedding Toast
Place: Sheer Drama

Ruby Notion (Great Notion): Won both the Colleen and Selima. 5th in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot.

Andreya's Reward (Warrior's Reward): 5th in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies and won the Our Dear Peggy. Both wins have been in FL.

Sapphire Kitten (Kitten's Joy): Broke maiden and 2nd in the Jessamine over this surface. Same owner and sire as Stephanie's Kitten.

Harmonize (Scat Daddy): Won both the Jessamine and P.G. Johnson. Race over surface helps.

Nemoalia (More Than Ready): 2nd in the Fritzette which was her US debut, before that won at Handicap at Doncaster. Dirt to turf.

Arlington Million Picks

I apologize for not having an Arlington Million preview tomorrow, however I'm currently out of state. That being said, I thought a pick post wouldn't out of the question.

10th Race - Arlington Park - Saturday, August 15th, 2015

6 Legendary (GB) 6 G L 126 Russell Sheldon Saville Niall
7 The Pizza Man 6 G L 126 Geroux Florent Brueggemann Roger A.
8 Quiet Force 5 H L 126 Albarado Robby Maker Michael J.
9 Shining Copper 5 G L 126 Emigh Christopher A. Brown Chad C.
10 Triple Threat (FR) 5 H L 126 Lezcano Jose Mott William I.
11 Maverick Wave 4 C L 126 Buick William T. Gosden John H. M.
12 Elleval (IRE) 5 G L 126 Smullen Patrick J. Marnane David
13 Belgian Bill (GB) 7 H L 126 Spencer Jamie P. Baker George

The Euro's aren't the toughest that the race has seen, the best of the bunch is very likely Maverick Wave. Up with the Birds comes with the best international background out of the North Americans (after all he did start his career in Canada), and was 4th in this race last year. Slumber and Big Blue Kitten like UB are G1 winners, the latter defeating last year's champ Main Sequence in what would turn out to be his career finale.

With that being said, I love The Pizza Man. He won the American St. Ledger last year, and won the St. Ledger prep this year. Last year's winner Hardest Core also won his prep going a mile and a half. Up with the Birds for second and Bookrunner for third.

Honor Code (A.P. Indy): Won Met Mile and 5th in the Alysheba. Even though he has won at 2 turns, that was as a 2 year old. Will need to prove he can do it as an older horse.

Tonalist (Tapit): 2nd in the Suburban and Met Mile. With the speed in the race it will set up for him. That being said, 0 for 3 at Aqueduct and Saratoga combined.

Noble Bird (Birdstone): Won the Stephen Foster and 2nd in Alysheba. The latter was his stakes debut, thus needs to prove himself. This will be his NY debut.

Liam's Map (Unbridled's Song): Won Allowance/Optional Claimer and Harlan's Holiday. Graded stakes debut. Only loss was last year at Saratoga.

Moreno (Ghostzapper): Defending champ of the race. 8th in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita and 2nd in the Californian. Last time out broke a 4 race streak where he ran pretty well.

Lea (First Samurai): No Dubai bounce for him as he finished 2nd in the Foster after his 3rd place finish in the World Cup. Best finish at Saratoga was a couple of wins at 3 when he was a maiden then an allowance. Best stakes finish was 3rd, but that was on turf.

Coach Inge (Big Brown): 3rd in the Suburban and won the Brooklyn. The latter was his stakes debut. 1 start at Saratoga, but that was on turf.

Wicked Strong (Hard Spun): 2nd in the Forbidden Apple and 5th in the Met Mile. Has been in a bit of a cross-roads this year. Won last year's Jim Dandy before losing the Travers by a nose to his stablemate V.E. Day.

United Nations Preview

Note: Due to the holiday and family commitments, I was unable to do my usual preview. Many apologies.

A year ago, Main Sequence burst onto the US scene to take the United Nations on his way to BC Turf glory. Today he tries to defend his UN title. Lets take a look at the field.

11th Race - Monmouth Park - Sunday, July 5th, 2015 STAKES. 1 3/8 Mile Turf. Purse $500,000. United Nations S. (Grade 1). FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD. Non-winners of a Grade I Stake since October 31, 2014 allowed 3 lbs.; Non-winners of a Grade II Stake in 2015, 5 lbs. The nominated winner of the United Nations will be entitled to receive automatic entry into the 2015 running of the Breeders' Cup Turf Division, have pre-entry and entry fees waived for the Championship race and reeceive a travel award if stabled outside of Kentucky. The winning owner to receive a trophy. Closed Saturday, June 20, 2015 with 22 nominations. (If considered inadvisable to run this race on the turf course, this race will be run at One Mile and One Quarter on the main track.) . (05:46 PM)

Twlight Eclipse who has played second fiddle to Main Sequence finally broke through two back in G1 company. Ashleyluvssugar has won his last three with two of them graded stakes. Slumber won the Manhattan, and the Kittens are always tough so Big Blue Kitten shouldn't be overlooked. The same can be said about Imagining. I think Main Sequence may need a race after a poor Dubai effort, but with his closing kick it shouldn't be a problem.
