Race Recap: Gold Cup at Santa Anita

With great names like Seabiscuit, Citation, Ack Ack, Cigar, Affirmed, Native Diver and Lava Man, the Gold Cup at Santa Anita (formally the Hollywood Gold Cup) added a new name to it's prestigious list of winners. Gallant Stable's Majestic Harbor (Rockport Harbor) was able to pull away from Clubhouse Ride (Candy Ride (ARG) to win this year's edition. Imperative (Bernardini) finished in third with Game On Dude (Awesome Again) in fourth. Ridden by 2008 HGC winner Tyler Baze, he's trained by Sean McCarthy who earned his first G1 win as well it being the horse. Majestic Harbor was third in the Californian, before that he won the Tokyo City Handicap.

Bred by Liberation Farm & Brandywine Farm and out of the mare Champagne Royale (French Deputy) this makes Majestic Harbor a ½ brother to this year's Arkansas Derby winner and third place finisher in the KY Derby (to California Chrome) Danza (Street Boss). He has made 23 starts with 6 wins, 6 seconds and 4 thirds with earnings of $655,764.

Majestic Harbor earns a trip to the Breeders' Cup Classic with his win.
