Race Recap: Metropolitan Handicap

Known as a sire making race, the Metropolitan Handicap could end up being more that after this year's thrilling edition. Last year's Belmont winner Dogwood's Palace Malice (Curlin) showed that he is more than a distance horse when he won the race. Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Valezquez, he came up to rail to nail defending Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents (Into Mischief). Romansh (Bernardini) was third with Shakin It Up (Midnight Lute) in fourth. Unforntally, the latter was vanned off after the race.

Palace Malice was bred by W.S. Farish and out of the mare Palace Rumor (Royal Anthem). He has 16 starts with 7 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third and earnings of $2,631,135. Palace Malice has earned a place in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and is currently in the Horse of the Year driver's seat.
