The Ogden Phipps was expected to be the best race on the Belmont undercard, and it didn't disapoint as Juddmonte's Close Hatches (First Defense) defeated Princess of Sylmar (Majestic Warrior) by a nose in a photo finish. Antipathy (A.P. Indy) was third after helping to set the pace. Beholder (Henny Hughes) who the favorite in the race and my pick looked like she would finish in the top 3, but faded to fourth at the end.

Close Hatches has now earned her place in the Breeders' Cup Distaff with her win in the Phipps.
