This morning, the world learned that 2 time Horse of the Year 1995 Classic winner and 1996 Classic third place finisher Cigar (Palace Music) had passed away at the age of 24. After being found sterile, he lived out his life at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
Cigar was bred and owned by Allen Paulson and trained for the majority of his career by Bill Mott. Other then winning the Classic, he also picked up wins the Woodward, Dubai World Cup, Donn and NYRA Mile. The last race now bearing his name. His record was 33 starts with 19 wins, 4 second and 5 thirds with earnings of $9,999,815. Jerry Bailey rode him for 15 of his then co-record of 16 connective wins. Here is his biggest, the Classic.
